Above are pictures from this halloween of [livejournal.com profile] icarusdiver (Zombie, front left), [livejournal.com profile] geheimnisnacht (mad baker, front right), and myself (V For Vendetta, back). The "bring pluto back" protester was with a group of people we ran into while wandering around downtown, physics undergrads. He handed me a flyer that said "Support a 9 Planet Solar System!" and had a web url http://www.bringbackpluto.org... looks like it actually is a real website, whether serious or not.

I just uploaded a bunch of pics from previous halloweens. Most of them I've already posted at some point or another to this journal, but they weren't actually in the gallery, which you can find here As a bonus, here's photo of evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins signing my copy of The God Delusion a couple weeks ago.

Congratulations, democrats, on retaking congress... well done. Gridlock will hopefully stop Bush and his cronies from further assaulting the freedoms of US citizens, such as his recent whimsical suspension of habeus corpus, and the bill he passed to make himself immune from being tried for war crimes, and the bill he passed giving himself emergency powers to declare martial law whenever he feels like it. It seems he was getting rather desperate towards the election to get certain things passed... hopefully, this will at least be enough to stop him from further abusing his power.

Awesome, physicists on Halloween :) As the wannabe world traveler I am, I dressed as a gypsy and will post pics soon.

I'm also happy about the elections - my family wasn't since they're conservative, but I told them hey, with a Republican executive branch and a Democratic Congress, there'll be so much gridlock the government won't be able to get anything done, and you'll like that ;)

Yeah, that's the main reason I'm happy about this election. I was also pleased when the Republicans took over Congress during the Clinton administration. Usually, the only new laws I agree with are ones that limit or weaken old laws... unfortunately, these tend to be few and far between. This election is especially a relief as the new laws that have been getting passed recently are among the scariest I've seen in my lifetime.

I personally don't see how Bush appeals to conservatives. I guess I can see how his theocratic bigotry appeals to some neo-cons, but he's done more to waste the taxpayers money than any democrat I've seen. Government is now bigger, scarier, and more dangerous than ever with him in control. Unfortunately, my family is also in the same boat as yours--they don't seem to understand how different he is from the old conservatives.

Wheee, Guy Fawkes! ^_^

I should go look at your Dawkins/God Delusion shot. I got my copy of The Blind Watchmaker signed, but I didn't get any pictures. Eep. I'm upset, because I was HELLA happy to see Dawkins and it was a pretty good experience. But at least I have the signed book. *grin*

I'm also pleased about the Democrats as well - I'm pretty tired of the Republican nutjobs already. I don't like Bush's economics either - he TAX CUTS and then SPENDS: he's an economic dumbass!

Yeah... basically, the poor fool who takes office after him is going to have to clean up the mess he's made by raising them up again... and whoever it is, he's sure to be unpopular for it while Bush gets a free ride. It's actually a pretty brilliant political strategy if you think about it... he gets all the praise from lobbyists for spending the money, without any of the accountability of having to pay for it.

bush: I wrote a law that says I cant be convicted of international war crimes. Heh heh heh!

Judge: this is the international court, we do not recognize US law.

Bush: FUCK! Cheney said I'd be ok! That fucker!

the guy fox(?) is awesome, why didn't I think of that?

and I don't know if you watch south park, but richard dawkins had a recent two-episode appearance (not really him), and lets just say it involves a super-atheist future where they all "worship" the great dawkins :).
