Dr. James Hughes, May 25th... be there

I spent several hours today working on this poster (with lots of help from
geheimnisnacht and Max, and a shot of Tequila each to celebrate Cinco de Mayo). So you better be impressed! And more importantly: SHOW UP! Max and I have done (and will continue to do) a lot of work planning this event--corresponding with Dr. Hughes to convince him to come, getting funding from GSA and other sources for it, making arrangements for the space, the AV equipment, making the flyers (of which this is one), looking into local radio and newspaper outlet possibilities, etc. Various versions of this poster will soon be showing up all over campus, town, and the internet. We booked the Media Theater which seats 390 people, and we plan to advertise this as widely as possible. So please repost this anywhere you see fit. Ideally, this should be popping up on blogs all over the Bay Area. The absolute last thing we're worried about is filling up the whole theater (that would be quite a feat!) So bring your friends, bring your enemies, your friends of friends, and friends of enemies... transhumanist, cyborg, philosopher, bio-luddite, you name it... just bring everyone. It's completely free and open to the public (unlike the very similar talk he's giving at Stanford the same weekend, which is part of a Bio-Ethics conference that costs $200 at the door). So view this as a unique opportunity to hear the wisdom of James Hughes (or raise your concerns, whatever they are). If you live anywhere in the Bay Area and are interested in human enhancement technologies, especially their ethical and societal impacts, try and make it down to Santa Cruz for this. You will not be disappointed! (I'm postdating this entry so it stays at the top until the event happens).

The guy in the upper-right-hand corner is Kevin Warwick, one of the 4 people interviewed in the Building Gods video I linked to earlier. He has two implant chips which serve as a direct interface between his neurons and electronic equipment, and is working on further self-modifications.
Here's a slightly more cheesy flyer we came up with before. Not nearly as good, but we'll probably use it too.
