In May of 2006 I hosted a Future Salon at UCSC entitled "Transhumanism and the Ethics of Human Enhancement", where James Hughes (executive director of the Institute for Ethics of Emerging Technologies as well as the World Transhumanist Association) gave a lecture on transhumanism. I have had several requests for a copy of the video, but I had all sorts of problem getting it from my video camera into my computer and properly compressed. In the process I ended up buying a new hard drive, installing new video editting/compression software, as well as upgrading my whole motherboard, memory, etc. (For a long time, every time I tried to do the compression, my computer kept overheating! The story of obstacles I ran into is a lot longer, but that was the main one.) After that, I had no luck trying to upload it to Google Video. Every time I tried to upload it, it says it worked fine but then doesn't put the video up there with no explanation as to why. So finally, I remembered that
mathemajician had kindly offered to host it on vetta.org, which is the route I eventually took. Nearly two years after the actual event, here is the video for all who are interested... it's finally online:

While I'm posting videos, here are a few more...
Lisa Randall and Stephen Colbert... 2 great tastes that, well... really should never be tasted together:

Comedic report on a public school for witchcraft and wizardery with a bit less funding than Hogwartz:

Don't do crack!, a friendly suggestion from PeeWee Herman:

NASA and BNSC are considering building a mobile phone network on the moon for the benefit of early lunar colonists (ok, this isn't a video but it's interesting):

A really cute animation exploring the philosophical self-identity paradoxes of cloning/teleportation:

(I wrote a really neat short scifi story about a device like this to explore these issues when I was in 6th grade... one of my favorites, which unfortunately got lost when my parents sold their 8086 (with a whopping 512K of ram!) and upgraded to a 286. I never really felt like all of the philosophical paradoxes were resolved in my head until many years later, after I started thinking a lot about the Many Worlds Interpretation.)
Blowing the whistle on Fox News... this is pretty disturbing if it's true (and unfortunately I suspect it is):
