gallo, etc.
Mar. 4th, 2004 11:21 pmDr. Robert Gallo spoke on campus today. According to his website, he was the "most referenced scientist in the world" in both the 80's and the 90's. (Mostly for discovering that HIV causes AIDS). Currently, he's working on a vaccine for HIV. I don't really know anything about this stuff, but it was fun to listen to something completely unrelated to my field for a change. Although now I'm hyper paranoid that I'm going to catch viruses. I could never be a biologist, it makes me too squeamish to think about the workings of my own body. (Especially about how it can be attacked!) Was surprised to hear that some people seem to be naturally immune to catching HIV.
My TAship for next quarter is a bit up in the air this time. The math dept kind of screwed me over. But it turned out okay, because it looks like I'll either be TA'ing Universe Formation, or Mathematical Methods in Physics. I should find out tomorrow which one for sure. I'm kind of hoping for the former as it would be more fun and require less thought, however the latter would probably be good practice.
I went and looked at an apartment today; probably going to move in a month. Place looked pretty good and the current inhabitants were cool, but I'm a little worried that they don't have any kind of broadband.
